Each month we crunch data from brand metrics and performance metrics to find out who’s the best of the best on social and this time we thought we’d focus on those that have a perfect game on Facebook. Whilst we can’t all have astronauts as our alumni, there’s plenty of inspo to take away from this months Edurank champs for your own content planning.
Did you know that 40% of 16 to 24-year-olds say they feel lonely ‘often’ or ‘very often’? It’s no secret that universities offer students a chance to find like-minded friends and make connections that last a lifetime. And social media is a powerful channel to highlight and form tribes to not just existing students but alumni and prospective applicants.
And with that in mind, the University of Glasgow does an excellent job of creating a community on their Facebook page. Bringing both their existing students and their alumni together, the University of Glasgow use Facebook as a brilliant space to sing the praises of their UofG family. And it resonates with students, letting them know they’re part of something bigger. The University of Glasgow comments on generous alumni donations and groundbreaking work, celebrating fantastic student achievements and even spurring on their University Challenge contestants. It’s a hub of connection and goes a long way of making 16- 24-year-olds feel a lot less lonely.
With over 15,000 followers on their Facebook page (the sector average is 6,000), East Durham College is flying ahead. They post regularly, showcasing the variety of courses and facilities they have to offer and how students benefit from them. With a personal and friendly tone of voice, their posts are shared continuously and engaged with on Facebook. The College TOV is on point, using emojis to connect with their readers and keep their student audience’ Facebook feed fun.
Anglia Ruskin University International is another institution leading the way on their Facebook page. They’ve accrued an impressive 53,861 followers (while the sector average is 34,000), and show no signs of slowing down. With video posts on Facebook getting more than twice the average engagement than any other type of content, Anglia Ruskin University International uses that to their full advantage. Filming Live Q&A’s and sharing their refugee convoy talk at ARU Cambridge, they fill their feed with digestible and engaging posts, perfect for their target audience. It’s no wonder they’re scoring a perfect 100 and building a strong follower base.
Once again we see an institution draw upon their alumni to promote that feeling of belonging that students so love to see. United States Military Academy had a particularly special nostalgic homage this month when honouring Michael Collins, West Point Class of 1952, and Buzz Aldrin, West Point Class of 1950, who launched with #Apollo11 50 years ago. Bringing their West Point Military Academy together, they created a shareable Facebook post that made their existing students proud to be apart of the institution. The United States Military Academy continuously opts for brilliant imagery too, to accompany any post, which again captures the attention of the often very busy eyes of students.
